BOARD MEMBERS
Leon Dennis (Director of Outreach) is a certified John Maxwell life coach. He has devoted his life to empowering individuals to utilize their physical resources and mental capacity to push the boundaries of their capabilities. Leon has worked in healthcare for the past 12 years, before which he served as a pastor.
Rita Dennis (Director of Operations) is a Program Coordinator Manager at Renoxx Caregivers, where she is known for her unique and warm personality. She received her bachelor’s degree in social work from the University of Guyana, as well as certificates in small business management, supervisory management, and accounting. She has also received training in ABA Therapy and is a certified MANDT Instructor, CPR/ First Aid Instructor, and Family Life Coach.
Ms. Rita has 40 years of working experience in diverse fields. She began her career with the National Data Management Authority in Guyana S.A, where she worked for 19 years in the Administrative and Finance departments. After a major career change, she began her lifelong dream of working with children and families facing special circumstances. She began working at Renoxx Caregivers in 2012, and though her roles have changed over the years, her goal has remained the same- to treat others with respect, love, and integrity, whether clients or staff. Her philosophy: “Be committed and strive for excellence in whatever you do.”
Destiny Dennis (Secretary/Treasurer) is a student at the University of Pennsylvania, majoring in Communication and minoring in Consumer Psychology. Expected to graduate in May 2024, she has gained valuable experience through marketing and communication internships at companies like Comcast, Pew Research Center, and EDA Contractors, where she currently works.
In addition to her academic pursuits, Destiny is passionate about fostering connections and community. She founded Penn Discover Mates, a student organization aimed at helping Penn students build lasting friendships and explore Philadelphia. Destiny has also served as an Event Coordinator and Mentor with Community School Student Partnerships, organizing events for West Philadelphia students and assisting teachers in the classroom.
With a strong skill set in research, collaboration, and communication, as well as a passion for serving underrepresented communities, Destiny is committed to ensuring that True to the Roots makes a lasting positive impact in the lives of those in need.
